Block Parties!
When we met in a movie theater, we used to do an event called “Saturday at the Park,” where we would cater free dinner, provide children’s and teen’s games, give away popcorn, hot chocolate, coffee… you name it. All for one purpose: to get to know our community and allow them an opportunity to get to know us. Our genuine desire to share Jesus with everyone begins with building relationships. With Jesus as our model, we go where the people are, rather than expect them to come to us.
Having moved into our Eastside Loop facility, our "Park Parties" have become much more focused on a specific community - the Overlook Apartments on Pantano Road right across the street from the church! Rather than in a park, they take place on the basketball/tennis courts at the north end of the complex. So we call them "Block Parties" and hold them in the "good weather" months (March/April/May/September/ October/November). At least twice a year, we are afforded the opportunity to meet with our neighbors, tell them about Jesus, and build intentional, lasting relationships with them. Our Home Groups each coordinate certain aspects of the event (BBQ, kids games, teens games, snacks, set-up and tear-down, etc.) making it "light work" since there are so many hands. We've seen great fruit from this ministry! Our next Block Party is coming May 5, 2012. We hope you consider joining us!
