Jesus' Plan to be with You Forever:
God never planned for us to be apart from him. Check out what the Bible says about His everlasting love that never fails (and email us with any and all questions!):
- First, The Hard Part...
No one likes to talk about it, but everyone knows it’s there. I mess up. You mess up. Let’s put it on the table: we SIN. It’s ugly. It hurts people. It kills. It lies. It enslaves. And nobody is exempt. The Bible says, "There is no one righteous, not even one… For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (Romans 3:10; Romans 3:23)
- God loves us, even still...
God has never changed the way He feels about His created: you and me. His love is still perfect in spite of how we treat Him. Just like loving parents who love their children through rebellion, hateful words, and broken communication. Even when we spat in God’s face, the Bible says He gave His life just to be with you forever. "But God demonstrates His Love for us, in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8)
- God's Gift of Life...
People often ask why Jesus – fully God on earth, and yet fully man – had to die. A quick history lesson in Jewish law will answer that: Righteous, holy God demanded that sins be paid for so that God could continue to have a relationship with His people. If someone sinned and didn’t offer a sacrifice, then how was a holy (unblemished) God expected to communicate with people who were unrighteous – not holy? It wouldn’t be possible. By very definition, the perfect God would become “blemished” if He were to come into contact with the imperfect. So God’s choice – rather than to forget about the whole thing and start over – was to make it possible for imperfect people to have an ultimate righteous sacrifice die (pay for the sin) in their place. The only possible candidate for that sacrifice was Himself. That’s why Jesus came. That’s why Jesus died – so God could make it possible for you and I to accept the free gift of eternal life provided by Himself. The Bible says, "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
- Not by Works or “being good...”
After reading #3, it’s easy to see there’s nothing you or I can do to “earn” the gift of eternal life God has for us. It’s all God’s doing. He does the work. He gives the gift. The Bible says that by receiving that gift, you will live eternally – forever – in His presence in heaven. That’s called GRACE. We don’t deserve it. God doesn’t owe us anything. But because of His love (not mine our yours – His alone), He has made a way for us. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
- There must be a one-eighty (repentance) from sin.
Once you and I see God’s desire to be with us, and all the work He has already done to make that possible, we have a decision to make: say “thanks, but no thanks,” and continue to live without Him; or turn from (repent: do a one-eighty) that old way of life that leads to death, and turn completely to Him for life. Jesus said, "Repent and believe the Good News!" (Mark 1:15) The Bible also says, "That if you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord,' and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved." (Romans 10:9-10)
- The result - Salvation... Life forever with Jesus.
Jesus is the author of salvation. The Bible says, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved." The Creator of the world has provided a way for the created to be with Him forever! (Acts 4:12)
